About this Project
JLK is the design lead for Mortenson Construction and Proterra for CTA’s first all-electric bus line which will implement 20 all-electric buses on the Chicago Avenue #66 route from Navy Pier to Chicago Austin terminals. JLK is designing in conjunction with Proterra and Heliox the newest technology of charging buses from vertical masts via descending pantographs that will be able to completely charge a single bus in 22 minutes. In addition to the masts, JLK is designing both sites to incorporate new buildings to house the required charging equipment, and site enhancements for CTA patrons and pedestrians that include CTA artwork, Divvy bikes, and new landscaping and hard scape design to improve pedestrian flow and safety.
