About this Project

JLK is the historic consultant for the Chicago Transit Authority’s Red Line Extension project.

JLK is currently working to provide Section 106 process consulting services as part of the CTA Red Line Extension project, which proposes extending the Red Line services from the current endpoint at 95th Street south to 130th Street. By extending this service, the Federal Transit Authority and CDOT provide additional public transit access to thousands of Chicago residents.

JLK is providing Section 106 services for the project, including consultation with the SHPO and consulting parties to define the Area of Potential Effect (APE) for the project, identification of historic resources within that APE, determination of effects upon those resources, and mitigation of effects with appropriate design solutions. The process involves extensive survey of the project site, recordation of existing conditions, research on potential historic resources, and coordination with the design team.  JLK will assist in creation of final EIS and EA documents for the project which will be coordinated with the project team, CTA, and Federal Transit Authority.
